Drywall Textures & Finishes

Texture: Different textures are available and samples are provided upon request.

The level of drywall finish is chosen by the homeowner or contractor, usually based upon what will be done with the walls; e.g. bare, painted, or papered.

It is essential that the level of finish is determined at the design stage since each level of finish has specific requirements for substrate tolerances and Drywall installation. The desired level of finish may not be achieved unless all of these requirements are met through various stages of construction

Level 2
This is typically used in garages, warehouse storage areas and other similar areas where the final surface appearance is not of concern.

Level 3
This is most commonly used in closets or storage areas. This level of finish is not recommended where smooth painted surfaces or light to medium wall coverings are specified.

Level 4
This is the most commonly requested finish for interior rooms. This level should be specified where flat paints, light textures, or wall coverings are to be applied. In critical lighting areas, flat paints applied over light textures tend to reduce joint photographing. Gloss, semi-gloss and enamel paints are not recommended over this level of finish.

Notes:
  • -In critical lighting conditions, surface variations may still be apparent in a Level 4 surface finish.
  • -Gloss, semi-gloss or deep tone paints are not recommended for Level 4 finish, as they accentuate surface variations.

Level 5
This is typically used in bathrooms and kitchens This level of finish is highly recommended where gloss, semi-gloss, enamel, or nontextured flat paints are specified or where severe lighting conditions occur. The highest quality finish is the most effective method to provide a uniform surface and minimize the possibility of joint photographing and of fasteners showing through the final decoration. It is the smoothest level available.
